Aquil Bey | History With Firearms

Mr. Bey is a retired U.S. Army Green Beret with multiple instructor ratings a Training Counselor, a member of National Law Enforcement Firearms Association, American Society for Industrial Security and Law enforcement firearms instructor.  His focus is on improving the skills and abilities of each individual student without focusing on himself.

Bey trains mostly in the Baltimore area but does travel on occasion to train with colleagues in the industry. This guy is one bad Brother. The former Green Beret and expert Marksman gave us insight on his life and on how he started and his company.

Hello Aquil, great talking to you Aquil and taking time out today to speak to the National African American Gun Association. I know you are very busy so I am appreciative of being able to speak to you today. The NAAGA family is interested in hearing from you.

Where were you born?

Queens, New York.

Were guns in your family as a child ?

Not officially. (Father was in the Military and showed me guns at the unit but not in the home). Friends had guns so there was that.

Did you shoot or hunt as a child?

Absolutely not. Something I feel all inner-city children should be exposed to. That and swimming.

When and how did you get introduced to firearms?

Officially, when I joined the military at 17 years old. Unofficially, growing up with friends and watching war movies.

Why and how did you enroll in the US military

I watched my father and sister served and was drawn to the war movies, etc. Had to get my parent’s signature to enlist because I was 17 years old at the time.

What branch and what rank are you?

Army. Master Sergeant (E-8).

What were your experiences and what parts of the world did you go to in the military?

My experiences were educational and enlightening. I’m a retired Green Beret and have been fortunate to work with and alongside of indigenous personnel to get things done. I’ve traveled mostly in the Middle East and Africa, as well as parts of Europe.

What did you enjoy about the military?

Teamwork.

What firearms did you shoot in the military ?

Pretty much every US and Foreign firearms organic to the countries we’ve deployed to.

Why did you want to become a green beret ?

I became a green beret because I wanted to “do more”. It’s not something I wanted to do originally, as it was a huge commitment; however, it is definitely something I’m glad I made the choice to become.

What does the motto “To Liberate The Oppressed” mean to you?

It means a lot to me actually. It means to stand up for the little man, those who cannot fight for themselves. It means to organize, train and equip those oppressed to fight for their own freedom.

What firearms do you shoot?

I shoot close range guns.  Glocks are my favorite because they offer functional reliability, as I’ve experienced. Others are okay though so I’ll shoot anything available.

What is your favorite rifle?

I don’t have a favorite but mid-range (5.56mm/AR platforms); long-range (.308/bolt or AR Platform).

Do you have a favorite gun?

No, I’ll shoot anything and like to learn about new guns as they’re manufactured.

How did you start you own firearms training company ?

The concept began after September 11, 2001. Our SF Detachment was deployed often and while we were trained and prepared for war, there was little to nothing in place for our families back home. Several wives were being harassed by people around the base, etc. and it affected the minds of our guys deployed. I found that to be an ironic gap and decided to offer safety awareness training to so

me of the families of our guys deployed. That interest grew to families on base, then off-base and now we’re here.

What do you specialize in with your company?

Our mission is to mitigate the effects of violent crimes through the delivery of awareness and self-defense training programs. We specialize in Violent Crime Mitigation strategies, tailored to the lifestyle of each individual client. Everything we do is with this in mind.

What plans do you have for your company in the future ?

To continue to expand our LiteFighter365 Training Programs as it relates to individual survival planning, training and execution. We’ll also continue to train and mentor new firearms instructors in their efforts to expand the safe and effective use of firearms in their areas. We will continue to deliver emergency management planning assistance to businesses and faith-based organizations.

Aquil Bey is an excellent instructor, I believe he will provide a meaningful and valuable learning experience for participants in the program. NAAGA has chosen the right individual to lead the Instructors course for sure. Congratulations to all involved, I am excited to see what comes next.
