CNN’s “Don Lemon Tonight” and ABC’s “The View” Feature the Bass Reeves Gun Club and NAAGA National President, Philip Smith

NAAGA president and founder, Phil Smith along with the Bass Reeves Gun Club were featured on CNN this week. CNN reporter, Ryan Young interviewed the female Atlanta NAAGA chapter members during their monthly Ladies Day Out event at the South River Gun Club in Covington, GA.

The segment, aired on Don Lemon’s nightly broadcast, discussed the huge surge in sales and first-time gun enthusiasts in the African American community.  The story was picked up by numerous internet news websites and rebroadcast on several network affiliates. A portion of the CNN story was used on the daily talk show, “The View” to discuss the rise in violence and gun sales.  The show garners an average of 2.5 million daily viewers.

    It would be presumptuous and erroneous to link the rise in first-time gun ownership in the Black community to the rise in gun violence. This is more of an awakening that Black Americans are woefully under-armed in a country that continues to dehumanize us.
