The Concealed Carry Fashion Show and Interview with Tangy Daniel

Our NAAGA President and Founder, Phil Smith will be the keynote speaker at the Concealed Carry Fashion Show on June 26, 2021. The event will take place at a private estate in Winston, GA at 3pm. The show was created by our fellow NAAGA sister, Tangy Daniel, AKA Tactical Tangerine. Phil got a chance to interview Ms. Daniel recently to talk about her journey that led her to the firearms culture, and the purpose of creating a concealed carry fashion show:

NAAGA | Concealed Carry Fashion Show & Interview with Tangy DanielPS: Hello Ms. Daniel. Thank you for taking time out today to speak to The National African American Gun Association. We are excited about speaking with you today. I know your schedule is very busy so I will jump into some questions our readers would be interested in finding out.

PS: What is your full Name?
TD: Tangy Daniel

PS: First of all where were you born?
TD: I was born in Mississippi, but I left when I was five and was raised in Atlanta, GA. I’ve been here my whole life.

PS: Did your family have guns in the house in your childhood years?
TD: As a child we were not taught about gun safety! We didn’t have guns in the house (that I know of), and we were taught to never touch them if we did see one. As a matter of fact I grew up Jehovah’s Witness so they were actually frowned upon. I was also a cheerleader so very much a girly girl, and guns were of zero interest to me honestly.

NAAGA | Concealed Carry Fashion Show & Interview with Tangy DanielPS: When and how were you introduced to firearms?
TD: I was introduced to firearms in 2003 when I joined the United States Marine Corps. I went from not knowing anything about firearms to carrying one every single day when I did my two tours in Iraq. It was such an eye opening experience because I quickly had to learn how to use it, clean it, store it, respect it, and be responsible for it all at the same time! As I reminisce I realize that I didn’t take full advantage of the free shooting and ammo that I had access to like I should have.

PS: What are your favorite guns to shoot and why?
TD: My favorite guns to shoot are rifles followed closely by Glocks. I’m a bit of a firearm snob so I have specifics like the Highlander chambered in 6.5 Grendel, the Zev FL, FN Scar, .300 Blackout Honey Badger, and honestly any other aesthetically pleasing rifle I can put a suppressor on.

PS: How many guns do you have currently?
TD: I never discuss how many guns I have for personal and safety reasons, but I feel like if you can count them then you don’t have enough.

PS: When did you decide to become a firearms instructor?
TD: I decided to become a firearms instructor in 2020 after all of my friends kept asking me to teach them how to shoot. I wanted to be able to train them properly, and brush up on skills I may have forgotten since I was honorably discharged from the military. After that I wanted to learn everything I could about firearms, especially my own, so I became a Glock Armorer shortly after.

PS: What are your areas of focus as a firearms instructor?
TD: My areas of focus as a firearms instructor are teaching women situational awareness which I think is a skill that many of them lack. Basics like locking your car door, knowing all the exits in your environment, or not being so engulfed in your phone–those are not being stressed enough in my opinion. I also want to focus on the investment and generational wealth opportunities that the firearms industry can bring. I feel like Black people can really dominate the ancillary side of the business like real estate, processing, manufacturing, etc. and right now I don’t see that being discussed as often as I like. We always talk about restoring rights and releasing prisoners, which are all valid points, but some of us need to discuss the future and the opportunities we can take advantage of right now!

NAAGA | Concealed Carry Fashion Show & Interview with Tangy DanielPS: Where is your business located currently in the USA?
TD: My business is currently located in Atlanta, but I’m nationally certified and I travel and teach in different states often.

PS: What are your goals for yourself and company for the next five years?
TD: My goals for my company in the next five years are to have my FFL working with explosives and more. I plan on opening my SECOND gun range by then and franchising the brand in multiple states. I also want a squad of Tactical Tangerines who are beautiful badasses who show up to competitions and shut it down with elite tactical skills. I have more goals but this is definitely the start of it all.

PS: How is training women different from men?
TD: Training women compared to men has taught me a few things. First, women can get overwhelmed easily with all the new “gun” information. They also want to know why I’m teaching them a certain way and the explanation helps the information stick more, in my opinion. Women also want to know how they can protect their kids and keep them safe around firearms more than guys. Since I’ve been in male dominated industries all my life I relate to men really well, and after they get past my looks they really drop their ego and talk to me like one of the guys.

PS: What is the goal of the Concealed Carry Fashion Show?  How did you think of it?
TD: The Concealed Carry Fashion Show was inspired by the hashtag #cutecomfyconcealed where I show women my daily trials and triumphs with my EDC, which is a Glock 43x. The purpose of the Concealed Carry Fashion Show is to show men and women how you don’t have to compromise style just to conceal. Black women are the fastest group of gun owners, but you don’t see that representation in advertising. We want to show that concealment can be cute which we think will encourage more men and women to actually carry their firearms and get more training on how to use it.

I enjoyed this short but very informative article. We do need more education and training in the black community. I would like to thank Ms. Daniel for sharing a small portion of her life with firearms. I hope to meet her at a class one day soon.

I think this is awesome and hope to keep hearing more about her program and ant training Sessions in the jacksonville FL area. For the past year been getting my wife out a bit more to get comfortable with shooting and the reasons behind it. She is a girly girl still :-). But since my work has me traveling (prior to Covid) I need to ensure that when she is at home she has the knowledge and awareness of how to protect herself if needed. She would benefit from a program like this especially with a sister trainer!! Especially with the fashion attachment to it..(she loves to shop). It’s would be good for her to be around other sisters learning together and getting knowledge from an experienced person.

Best of luck to you!!! And look forward to hearing more about your program

You’re welcome, George. Please have your wife follow Tangy on her social media platforms and we hope you get her involved in some women’s activities throughout the year. Please contact the Warrior Woman’s Gun Club in Port St. Lucie. LaShonda Henderson, the chapter’s president, can arrange for her to join in on some of their events. warriorwomansgunclub@gmail.com

Make it an overnight trip since it’s over an hour away. Do this 3-4 times a year so she can bond with other ladies. If you have the time, try to start a Jacksonville (Blaxonville) chapter. We will also be launching Virtual Chapters in the months to come. Look for the information in our newsletter. If you are an official NAAGA member and don’t receive it, please check your spam folder.
