Southwest Regional Convention

IT’S OFFICIAL!! The First African American Firearm Convention in U.S. history is now in the books. The National African American Gun Association Southwest Region hosted their first annual convention, a three-day event held June 25 – 27, 2021, bringing together members from the Southwest region which
included Arkansas, Arizona, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.

NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN GUN ASSOCIATION – SOUTHWEST REGION
Historical Inaugural Regional Convention at the Texas Defensive Shooting Academy

The event was held at the Texas Defensive Shooting Academy (TDSA), an outdoor range located in Ferris, Texas, just 40 miles SE of Dallas.

This event gave members the unique opportunity to meet and greet NAAGA members and chapter leaders from all over to strengthen their skills in many different areas.

In addition to fun and fellowship with like-minded gun owners, the event included tactical self-defense training, a stop the bleed first aid course, chapter growth and leadership initiatives, an archery course, several shooting competitions, a firearm raffle and more.
For a mere $50 registration fee, these members had an opportunity to gain valuable training at an estimated value of $500, which was well worth the trip and fellowship that took place.

The heartfelt sentiment poured out in abundant during the leadership dinner Friday night. Everyone in attendance was extremely excited about future possibilities, and the many that had showed up, and came together to present this event for the members of the Southwest Region National African American Gun Association (NAAGA).

Having a very strong desire to come together as mask restrictions were being lifted, members of the Southwest regions decided to put on their own convention.

The convention program focused on topics including firearms etiquette, training, products, gun culture, education, safety, and the politics of firearms in the black community.

Instructing is an art that requires the 3 Rs, relevant, recent, and realistic.
NAAGA is comprised of African Americans from all walks of life, we are doctors, lawyers, educators, judges…we are pillars in our communities. We are here to continue to positivity shift the perspective of firearms ownership in our communities. We are our family’s first responder. See you on the range.

It would’ve been appreciated if me as an member of NAAGA could’ve been contacted about this historical event. Which I could’ve attended. I haven’t been contacted on any events concerning NAAGA ever since I joined in 2020. I’ve emailed the site many times & left my cell. I need to be in the loop. Not to happy so far real talk. Peace

Unfortunately I missed this first event. It looks like there was a lot of brother and sisterhood, education and fun. I WILL be in attendance for the Second Southwest Regional Convention(if there is a second).

I’ve been a member since 2017, and looking forward to being a part of future events and possibly getting in on some of the great training.

This was enlightening, empowering and just an all around great event for 2A people of color. The entire organizing committed should be commended!
I learned a great deal and enjoyed the fellowship with good people. The event was safe, well run and great gun etiquette was exhausted by all attendees.
Let’s Geaux! I can’t wait for next year.
