Building your NEST

Last year, our national president, Philip Smith introduced the NEST: NAAGA Emergency Support Team. The response to the NEST Talks was so overwhelming that NAAGA members launched scores of NESTs all over the country. We are happy to say we are in the process of continuing the education of developing your NEST. Mr. Smith will address us again in the months to come with various NEST-related subjects such as forming small groups, stocking emergency supplies, and learning life-saving and valuable skills to become an asset to your small group.

You can’t come to the NEST empty-handed and not possess any skills to contribute to the survival of the NEST. Now is the time to learn first aid, hunting, gardening, camping, hiking, canning, identifying safe plants to eat in the woods, ham radio, archery, and of course: strengthening your shooting skills.

We wanted to share a helpful video to get members to think about what supplies to gather for an emergency. While you may not be the epitome of a classic prepper, there is no excuse for not being prepared for emergency scenarios. COVID-19 has taught us to prepare for the unexpected–or the unimaginable. If you told your family and friends three years ago that they need to prepare for a possible worldwide shut-in situation, they would have questioned your state of mind.

With that being said, NAAGA members can prepare for extreme emergencies without having to convince family and friends of the ultimate doomsday scenario (although they may finally believe you after experiencing an almost one year long, worldwide quarantine). Over the decades, we have witnessed rioting in the streets, power outages, tainted water supplies, blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, heatwaves, political unrest, attempted (and successful) kidnappings, mass shootings, gang wars, assassinations, flooding, black ice storms, and other situations where the unprepared have lost their lives.

As you continue to build your NEST, we encourage you to gather vital tips from videos like the one featured in this article. All of the items featured in The Urban Prepper’s Top 100 Preps to Buy at Home Depot are sensible items that can be used in many of the emergency scenarios we listed above. It’s one of the best lists we’ve seen.

Don’t forget: membership has its privileges. NAAGA is a proud partner with an MRE company (Meals Ready to Eat) designed to help you survive some of the worst emergency scenarios. Visit your member portal to receive discounts on emergency supplies.

We hope you gained valuable information from the Urban Prepper’s video. Feel free to list your favorite emergency preparation items in the comments below:
