Luanda Hart-Rodgriguez of Pretty Shooters

NAAGA National President and founder, Philip Smith caught up with Luanda Hart-Rodriguez of the Pretty Shooters. She possesses an incredible wealth of knowledge for all gun enthusiasts, and women especially enjoy her teaching style and guidance.

PS: Where were you born?
LHR: New York City

PS: Did your family have guns in the house when you were a child?
LHR: Absolutely not! We weren’t allowed to play with anything that looked like a gun.

PS: When and how were you introduced to firearms?
LHR: I was formerly introduced to guns by my husband about 15 years ago. We would go to the range to shoot different firearms. Although I know now that I was not shooting with intention, the experience helped me to get comfortable around guns.

PS: What are your favorite guns to shoot and why?
LHR: Pistols are my favorite guns to shoot. Pistols require more attention to detail when it comes to training. I like rifles, but I found they are easier to control. Pistols are more challenging, not to mention that’s what I carry for self-defense.

PS: How many guns do you have currently?
LHR: Not enough! LOL!

PS: When did you decide to become a Firearms Instructor?
LHR: A guy jumped into my car late night. He was high on drugs. Thankfully I was with my husband who was armed and able to get the guy out of the car unharmed. I couldn’t help but think, “What if I was alone?” I was impressed by my husband’s swift action down to the point of quickly making a decision to engage or not. He accessed the environment and used caution. I froze. I’ve been training ever since and realized the need for female instructors.

PS: What are your areas of focus as a Firearms Instructor?
LHR: Safety, Mental Capability, Community Education and Basic Marksmanship

PS: Where is your Business located currently in the USA?
LHR: South Florida

PS: What are your goals for yourself and company for the next five years?
LHR: To continue the mission in changing the narrative and image of responsible black gun ownership and to create a space for quality training and education.

PS: How is training women different from men?
LHR: In my experience, women seem to follow direction quickly. The men I attract to my classes come ready to learn , and I am grateful for that.

I appreciate the article about LUANDA HART. It was well written and spoke to a community of shooters that could relate to her story.
